Pudsey's Children in Need Appeal 2009!

I had a rude awaking this morning!
Young Pudsey grabbed my attention first thing, even before my breakfast...He insisted it was HIS day!!!
I went immediately to Mother re an explaination, as I do not readily accept this sort of conduct in my Hug!
She explained, he, Pudsey, is the mascot of the annual BBC TV's Children in Need appeal.
And, the principle fund raising events are today & on tonight's television.
Oh dear!
But, never let it be said, I do not know when I am in the wrong!
Now my Pudsey, is the original superior designer bear, but last year he was replaced by a brasher brother...Never the less he and 'Bro' have been 'Out & about' fund raising across the country - all my Mosaic images come from Google sources too many to credit individually...The charity's aim is improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
Last year, the 2008 Appeal raised an amazing £38 million!
This evening Pudsey and I will snuggle up & watch the Children In Need programme together with Mother...It is seven hours plus long, so I wonder do who will fall asleep first???
Not me for sure!

True Colours Thursday - VIOLET!

I mentioned to Mother, as soon as she arrived home on Tuesday, my concern that I would not be able to participate today, unless Miss Merry volunteered to model another kimono, this time a VIOLET one!
Then yesterday, Mother went into town and upon her return, presented me with a paperbag!
I sniffed it intently...But, imagine my surprise and delight when VIOLET popped out...It seems, Mother had called in @ the local British Heart Foundation charity shop as she frequently does when shopping, and found VIOLET desperately seeking a home.
Thankful, Mother had some spare loose change in her purse.
It would appear little VIOLET must have been given to celebrate a special event by the insignia on her bosom...
It says "Well Done"!
That is what I say to Mother.

True Colours Thursday - BLUE & YELLOW!

My first thought for this weeks colour combination was this pair of Art Gallery portraits of yours truly...But, then Master Bruge' had a word, saying he wanted his moment of fame.
I pointed out he had, had cameo roles on other posts and he is just BLUE...He responded by pointing out the BLUE circle with its 12 YELLOW stars, that he proudly displays on his chest...
I could not bring myself to say, that some might think them gold!
So, I graciously lost the argument.
The emblem is that of the European Community, who headquarters are in the Belguim city of Brussels.
Now, if you have ever worked out Mother's most frequently used method for the naming of bears, you may wonder why is he not called Bruge' instead of Brussels?
Well, Mother had a 'senior moment' and got her cities mixed up.
I must not laugh!
I must not laugh!
I must not laugh!
Still, the name Brussels might have reminded people of Brussel Sprouts and not everyone likes them, and I understand that Bruge' is a very pleasant medieval city.

Of Bruge' Bear, he tells that his first home was in a Hug consisting entirely of Beany and Buddy Bears, until all their lives were shattered by being cast into bags and donated to the Helen & Douglas Hospice charity.
With several outlets, his Hug was broken up and he with ended up @ their shop in the Covered Market, where he was fortunately spotted by Mother due to his bright blueness.
Bruge' now helpfully fathers our Hugs small Beanies and he has a soft spot for ticklish YELLOW Pudsey...Hugs,

True Colours Thursday - GREY!

Since Mother's colour was SILVER, a few months back, we have had an addition to the household Hug in the shape of blue nosed, pale GREY, youngster Patches.
Here he is, contemplating three dark GREY Hematite tumble stones...This little patched, 'Me to You' bear, who was once, a loving gift to someone, was abandoned @ Dreamingspires British Heart Foundation charity shop.
Soft hearted Mother, could not resist him.
He was only priced @ a mere 50 pence.
Why!
Because he was only thought suitable as dog toy!
Now nothing against pups, but no quality bear, no matter how small is worth that little, never ever, ever.
Mother later went & looked in Clinton Cards, a shop, who specialising in selling his compatriots.
Wow, was this poor fellow under valued.
But, to us household Hug bears, he's now a priceless new member.

True Colours Thursday - BEIGE & Grandmother!

Now, I know many may have struggled with this weeks colour.
But, not me!
Do not mean to brag.
BEIGE is an odd shade.
But, it is surely, Hug member Barney's colouration...
He was Grandmother's special 'rescue' bear.
She & Mother had gone away to Leamington Spa, to a rather grand sounding 'Christmas House Party' @ the Manor Hotel.
Apparently, it simply meant, the hotel's chef took the strain of preparing the holiday feast, leaving them to relax!
Grandmother, particularly liked Leamington, having fond memories of this Warwickshire town, from her time stationed there during World War II.
She had been assigned as live-in cook to Officers, who had requisitioned a large private house on The Parade.
And, despite a few wild japes, she earned her Sargent's strips there.
Anyway, back to Barney's tale - on Christmas Eve, walking the said Parade, they, Mother and Grandmother looked in @ the St Barnardos charity shop.
A certain boy was sitting lonesome on an otherwise empty shelf.
Grandmother, a bear softy - I am sure I would have liked her, immediately took pity on him.
She could not bare the thought of him spending Christmas there, alone in the cold and dark.
So, he was 'saved' from this fate and joined the festivities.

Okay, not BEIGE, well, apart fom her walking stick maybe!
But, this is Grandmother, that Christmas in the snowy Jefferson Gardens...
She looks very sprightly here in 1998.
It was before her fall, that broke her hip.
And, the evil Cancer that took her life.

True Colours Thursday - YELLOW!

I have only one real YELLOW bear, in the Hug!
That is of course Pudsey the BBC's
'Children in Need' famous mascot!
Mother wrote about his arrival @ the time, but I will quickly reprise.
'Children in Need' now a registered charity, raises money to
'make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children & young people throughout the UK'.
This annual fund raising event, started in November 1980, but it was not until 1985, that host Terry Wogan introduced a cuddly brown called Pudsey.
He proved so popular, he returned as
'Children in Need's official mascot the following year with a re-vamped image, that of a YELLOW bear with a red spotted bandage over one eye!
Since then, he's gone of from strength to strength, sponsoring events large & small.
However, last year in time for the 28th fundraiser, Pudsey had a make over; ie a multi-coloured spotted scarf!
Mother subsequently found these guy, in their old colour scarf, donated by retailer Boots to the
Helen & Douglas House Children's Hospice charity shop in town, she snapped the twins up...Thankfully, she did not keep both of them.
One quickly went to bear friend Edwards Hug.
So, when, I arrived there was just a single Pudsey to contend with...
He's a cheaky YELLOW fellow!

True Colours Thursday - ORANGE!

Well, Mother's colour meme, this week did briefly challenge me, regarding my Hug introduction process.
But, then young Oliver, or as he is affectionately known Ollie, sprang to mind..Well, he is named after an ORANGE carrot top!
It seems, whilst enjoying a Christmas House Party @ a hotel in Hove, the more select resort next to Brighton, Mother found him languishing in the British Heart Foundation charity shop there.
She rescued him and named him after a very attrative and attentive waiter with the said hair colouration, who had caught her attention!!!
Very interesting - as never imagined Mother was flighty!
Ollie the waiter is history but this fine huggable fellow remains.
And, here we are together before taking over the laptop to blog this...Hugs to all,

PS...
Yesterday, Mother had a private email from Maggie & Mitch and wheelie Miss Autumn, to say they had discovered a little more of Merry's American story
They wrote:-
"Our mom has a sieve for a brain sometimes!
Guess where Merry came from?
Awhile back mom and dad were taking regular trips to WOODSTOCK, Vermont!
Merry came from a place called the Enchanted Doll House!
We thought that you should know the town where mom found and adopted her!
What a coincidence!
This was truly meant to be!"
I could not agree more.
