Polar Bear Attack!

Mother showed me the following alarming email she had recieved.

Polar Bear Attack in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
These are pictures of an actual polar bear attack in the downtown area.
The photographs were taken while people watched and could do nothing to stop the savage assault!

Reports from the local newspaper say that the victim will make a full recovery.

True Colours Thursday - BROWN!

I had no problems with Mother's meme this week.
BROWN bears frequent my Household Hug in large numbers.
However, decided upon doing a co-ordinated BROWN bear post with Aunt BJ!
This is her John 1...
And, this is my BROWN boy, the day he arrived...
As you can see, they are very, very close cousins!
Mother rescued them both, last year from a warehouse in Kent.
And, then sent John 1 to Aunt BJ to watch over her writing.
They are Boyds Bears - a well respected bear breeder.

But, both are deeply devout fellows unlike myself!
Their, medallions reads...
"John 3:16
For God so loved the world,
That he gave his only Son,
That whoever believes in Him,
Should nor perish but have eternal life"

My John 2, quickly found Mothers 'Good News Bible'...
Now, it may surprise many, that Mother had such a book on her bookshelves, her not being religious.
Would you believe it, it was a Birthday gift!!!
Her old college friend, always devout, became a fervent 'born again' Pentecostalist, and decided to try and 'save' Mother!
A lost cause but I guess, good of her to try @ least!
She came to visit Mother, on her 27th Birthday.
Mother, being Mother, was equally intent on trying to broaden Aunt Prudence's horizons, so took her to The Mitre Inn, for a liquid celebratory lunch.
Probably, not the wisest of moves on her part, even though it is a highly respectable hostelry!
Mother had large red wine, Aunt Prudence a small milky coffee.
She, then presented Mother, with a BROWN paper package!
It contained the 'good' book.
Aunt not content with this surprise present, went on to point out, she had highlighted selected passages for Mother to read!
Amazingly, all these years later, they are still friends, if, somewhat distant ones.

Returning back to my John 2, despite his ardent bible studies...
He is proving a good natured fellow, so we get very well.
Never let it be said, my Hug is intorarant of differing beliefs & views.

It cannot be fun hanging around, waiting for a forever home!

The Magic Slipper!

I was a having a quiet afternoon nap today, when a 'Comment' from Miss Moussie alerted to me to the fact, that my dear Aunt, The Duchess, who has a delightful tranquil country home, had bestowed, a very special award on me.
Galvanised, my old joints into action, and went to visit straightaway.
I have been award the 'Shoe Award' but not any old shoe but a magical one, for those who enhance the lives of other's!
Was a little, no, a lot alarmed when I collected it...Cannot see myself wearing Cinderella's Glass Slipper, but accepted it, in the spirit it was given!
Aunt Duchess, described me as "a bear with the power to bring you to your childhood places!"
Am deeply flattered.
I like to believe I belong to the old school!
My intention, is to renew interest in collecting/rescuing Teddy Bears.
We are worthy and lovable and should not be causally cast asunder.
Mother & others, need constant encouragement and help to save us from fatal abandonment in unsavory places.

Now, I am to pass this special Award onto three magical individuals of my choice...
Miss Dilly, is a princess dragon, who takes magical trips!
Miss Asta, is a WFT of incredible caring class.
And,
Aunt BJ, is Aunt BJ, a writer of inspired, imaginative tales.
That was all quite exhausting!

Monochrome Monday - Silver Bears!

Do you remember these chocolate bears from my ABC Wednesday post for the letter C???...Since, I still have not brought myself, to eat all of them yet, lined up the survivors, for a Aileni photograph shoot!
It is interesting, how Gold becomes Silver in Black and White!
Yes, I have the makings of a fine Monochrome Maniac.

The Second Smallest Teddybear!

Have been doing a bit of Bear Web surfing!
I found 'Mini the Pooh', he's just 5 mm tall and was made by German sculptor Bettina Kaminski...But, he does not hold the Guinness World Record for the smallest Teddy Bear, that accolade goes to 'Tiny Ted'!
Made by Cheryl Moss of Mossie Bears, South Africa, he is a 4.5mm tall teddy and is fully jointed with hand sewn eyes, nose and mouth.
He now lives in the Cheju Island Teddy Bear Museum in Korea and is displayed under a magnifying glass, for all to see!

Am very glad these little ones are NOT members of my Household Hug, as fear they would all too quickly be lost!!!

All WARM & Cosy!

The prompt for this weeks Saturday Photo Hunters challenge was warm!
I thoughtfully, pointed out to Mother, she need look no further, than me, keeping warm in my own cosy fleece bear blanket, during the recent inclement cold weather...
But, she said she did not believe the serious adults of this meme would appreciate me!
I am sure, she is very wrong.
Who could not resist me, all snuggled up???
Hugs, a disappointed,

True Colours Thursday - BLUE!

With Mothers love of BLUE, it will come as no surprise, that I was rather spoilt for choice as to who, to introduce from the Household Hug today for Mothers meme, there being three possible contenders!
After conferring with Merry, I finally settled on the rather shy, Master BLUEberry, wearing his BLUE floral cravat...He's a young bear of quality, being a Steiff!
Here's the proof, the tell-tale button in his ear...He arrived the year, that Grandmother was diagnosed as terminally ill, she spent Mother's birthday in Sobel House Hospice, after an emergency admission, when the nasty Cancer in her tummy erupted!
Mother, who had always, hankered after a Steiff Bear, purchased him for herself on Grandmothers behalf, as she too loved Stuffies & Teddies .
His name comes, not from the fact that he is so BLUE!
But, because, on the day of her actual birthday, Mother took in both BLUEberry Cheesecakes & BLUEberry Muffins for all the hospice residents & staff to enjoy.

I understand that Grandmother, did came home to stay & on her brighter days use to talk to him.
Here's the two of us, in the getting to know you hug...

E is for...!

Extraordinarily, hard this E letter in today's alphabet meme!
I eventually, settled on entertaining, a few of my introduced Hug Members - from left to right, Miss Merry, me, youngsters Ollie & Fushia...Everyone, enjoyed early afternoon tea and Eccles cakes, eaten before the photograph!

Monochrome Monday - Bear-R-Us!

Miss Merry and I decided to try a little experimental Black & White bear-tography for Aileni...We're not sure, all his fellow Monochrome Maniacs are quite ready for bears that blog after a rude comment that Mother moderated away last week, but we like to play!

Run Free Wellington!

Today, Mother and I are remembering this fine hairy fellow, who sadly went to the Rainbow Bridge on Friday...
I, of course, never had the chance to meet him personally but I understand he was a true eccentric English gentleman of excellent pedigree, who won many hearts and will be greatly missed by his family.
May he now be running, happily pain free with Mother's beloved Springer Spaniel Hero & young Airedale friend Oscar!

Saint Valentine's Day!

Being a traditional type of bear, I do not go for brash modern, Valentines Greetings Cards; I much prefer the old fashioned romantic ones.
Grandmother, it seems favoured them too, as Mother recently found this one...And, just read the sentiment expressed inside...Now, unfortunately for me, it is too late, to send it by snail mail.
So, using this new fangled technology, I am 'posting' it here - think I have got the lingo correct - for a certain Miss Rosie Bear, who resides with 'Aunt' Miss Peach>(^;^)<.
She is quite a genteel, retiring lady, and we have yet to be formally introduced, but when Mother was not looking, I could not resist from stealing a peak at her photograph.
It was love @ first glance...Am hiding my blushes here!
It would be wonderful if she felt the same way, when we eventually meet in bearson.
Yes, quickly moving on - I also, want to wish all my new found friends a Happy Valentine's Day!
Love and hugs,
xxx

Postscript...
Still my beating heart!
Please do look what I have just recieved, from my dear Miss Rosie...
She even graciouasly, agreed to pose with the card before 'virtual' dispatch...Am quite overcome with emotion!

True Colours Thursday - SILVER!

After thoroughly inspecting the household Hug, I had came to the sad conclusion, that I had no SILVER bear to introduce here.
I confessed to Miss Merry, my disappointment @ not being able to participate as a consequence, in Mother's meme this week; saying, how I did not like to let her down, she is a good sort but...
Merry, being merry, ever cheerful - told me not to despair and mysteriously, disappeared upstairs.
Quite sometime later, she reappeared.
I have to confess, to bearly recognising her!
Then, the dear girl settled down on Mother's SILVER thread cushion and posed for me!!!
She certainly, warms an elderly bears heart.
Here is Miss Merry, wearing her silk SILVER designer Kimono...I was delighted!
But, somewhat dumbfounded @ her unexpected dress skills.
So, politely, enquired how, she had acquired them.
Apparently, this resourceful girl, had, had the 'inflight' movie during her aeroplane trip from America, relayed to her travel box.
The film was called 'Geisha!'
I believe Mother has seen it too and has read the the book 'The Memoirs of a Geisha' by Arthur Golden, which she found absolutely fascinating as it transported her to a rapidly vanishing world little known about in the West.
Sorry! Digressing here; Merry was very taken with the Japanese costumes and watched it repeatedly over the long flight.
Just to prove her paw-ficiency, in the art of the Kimono, she proceeded to re-tied her attire.
I, as a gentleman, quickly averted my eyes, till she said look...Do note that it is enhanced by a SILVER pin too...What a treasure Merry was for solving that SILVER dilemma of mine.
She is a little young for me in the romanctic stakes, but certainly is my very 'Best Friend'.
Hugs to all,

D is for Dinning!

The letter D for today's alphabet meme, very nearly defeated me.
I had grown despondent.
My day dreams of distinguished dens, being just that, distant dreams.
And, I did not want to dwell on the dragons, forgive me Dragonstar or the deep dungeons in my dark past either.
Then, fine dinning @ dinnertime, yesterday...It dawned on me, I had my distinctive dinner dish to display...Actually, it was originally, dear Mothers!
Do not doubt, that it is now, a desirable collectible, dating as it does to the 1950's decade.
The down under connection, I am dubious about.
But, definitely, do hope those recent dastardly & deadly fires have been defeated.

Monochrome Monday - Bear Faced Snow!

Disappointed, as I was with the lack of Bear Snow Sculptures, when Mother showed me her other photographs taken of the recent frost & snow, I quickly claimed this one, for myself...Looks like a Bear face to me???
Guess, I might just participate in both Alieni's Monochrome Maniacs - blog HERE & Katney's Odd Shots this week!

Snow Critters!

It has come to my attention that there is a huge omission in the world of Snow Sculptures.
How come, that there are lots of Snowmen...Even, a Snow Hare...But, no Snow Bears???
Most mystifying!
I suggested to Mother that she rectify matters, but she claimed it was the wrong type of snow now!!!

Snow & an American came for Tea!

It has been a funny few days - full of surprises!
First there was the arrival of Merry.
For another, I keep waking up to a white world.
I wanted to take a closer look - but, Mother insisted I put on a pullover first.
Just, look @ me - she will have to take it in...
It was far tooo big, yet there was no reasoning with her.
Duly clad, I then peeked outside - the garden looked awfully chilly...And, white...However, bravely ventured out @ the front of my abode and measured the snow - 4 inches allowing for ruler error...
So, decided to stay cosy & warm indoors, which was fortuitous, as I had my third surprise of the week - an unexpected but exceedingly welcome caller.
Dear WFT Miss
Asta accompanying her daddy, on a brief UK visit, took a side trip to Dreamingspires specifically to have afternoon tea with me...I was delighted to entertain her!
Such a charming girl.
Saw her off in the snow, her next call Jackson
... I gather, she made it safely despite the atrocious travel conditions.
